The Red Soil Project was invited to attend UNITE for the Environment's Earth Day festivities in Bigode, Uganda. There were 35 organizations in attendance and all passionate about conservation.
Benjamin didn't have much time to prepare so he travelled to the celebration with a mini replica of rocket stove for the booth. He had to build it at home and then take it with him by bus. It's hard to believe it arrived intact.
It isn't that mini! It was about 25kg and had to be carried on the bus. Way to go Benjamin!
Benjamin didn't get much time to check out the other booths, since he was busy talking to everyone about our project and the importance of locally available seed and local foods. That said he was very interested in a peanut butter and honey project being run by a group of local women. What a great idea to present to the women we work with in Bushenyi!
If you want to see more about Earth Day 2013 you can visit the photo gallery at UNITE's Facebook page here. In the first picture you can see the RSP booth in the background, Benjamin's in a yellow shirt standing by the rocket stove.
Thanks UNITE! We look forward to being able to participate again in future Earth Day celebrations.
